Nieuw leven in EU… kansen voor SDG15

Lezen we nogmaals eens dit bericht (titel: het waait wel weer over). Daarna trekken we even wat lijntjes bij elkaar.

Het eerste lijntje. Hoe oud zou dit boompje zijn? Niet dat hij bestaan zou hebben als er géén corona pandemie zou zijn (geweest).

En wat schreef ik aan het begin van de corona pandemie? ‘Het waait wel weer over.’ Jawel… zeker wel, voor dit boompje vast en zeker.

George Orwell zei eens: ‘wat we vrezen, zal ons tot de ondergang brengen.’ bron: 1984

En Aldous Huxley daarentegen zei: ‘wat we verlangen, zal ons ten onder brengen.’ bron: A Brave New World

Beide boeken had ik gelezen toen ik in mijn examenjaar zat, in 1990, verplicht, edoch vrijwillig gekozen literatuur. In het Engels (had ik een 5 voor op mijn eindlijst). En ik geef toe, geen benul had ik in die tijd (ik was 17) van de inhoud, noch van de vooruitziende blik die erin verhuld zat. Ik begin te neigen naar het laatste oordeel (Aldous Huxley) die gelijk heeft. Het almaar napraten en jaknikken (‘liken’ op sociale media) is wat we als mensheid ondertussen meer en meer graag aan het doen zijn. Daar verlangen we schijnbaar naar? Of hebben we niks beters te doen… Ondertussen verliezen we de essentie van het leven uit het oog.

Laat ik er nou positief aan toevoegen: waar we op hopen, komt ook uit, herwinnen van respect voor biodiversiteit en leven op land. Bij Global-Climate zijn velen bezig om het goede te doen. Projecten, duurzaam en lange termijn:

Meer dan 30.000 mensen uit 27 EU lidstaten zijn online ondervraagd, waarbij vragen onder andere gaan over of klimaatverandering uw alledaagse leven beïnvloedt, wie de strijd tegen klimaatverandering leidt, of u bereid bent om minder te vliegen, en of ‘carbon offsetting’ helpt bij het vliegen.

En voor wie er tijd voor heeft om door te lezen, volg deze link, ook aandacht in dit onderzoek voor: Gaat u zich beperken tot het consumeren van lokale seizoensproducten (agrarische cultuur van 11.000 jaar geleden, of wellicht dat wat we gewoon waren nog niet eens 25 jaar geleden…, dank aan alle supplychain ontwikkelingen in de afgelopen decennia)? Dit biedt kansen voor ontwikkeling van SDG15, een herdefiniëren van Leven op Land.

Betulia Hydroelectric Project in Honduras

This small run-of-river hydroelectric power plant provides clean and affordable energy to the national grid, displacing the need for traditional fossil fueled power plants.

At a time when many countries are suffering from climate change – Honduras is currently recording temperatures above 50°C – money generated from the sale of carbon credits enables the introduction of zero emission energy systems, providing:

Up to 23,000 MWh of clean and affordable energy to the local electricity grid each year
12 jobs of which 8 employees are hired locally

This project says it’s also used the proceeds from carbon credit sales to provide $40,000 in financial aid and contributions to local infrastructure and schools, and has worked with the community to plant 6,000 mahogany trees to help protect the local forests.

Qori Q’oncha – Improved Cookstoves diffusion
programme in Peru

As the first Programme ever to be certified to Gold Standard, Qori Q’oncha is a pioneer initiative that was developed based on a socio-anthropological study in the Andes. This study highlighted the importance of improved cookstoves for rural families, leading to strong and diverse positive impacts, such as better health and education, gender equality, access to clean water, and food security, as well as the necessity to ensure the sustainability of the project through carbon revenues.

Twelve years after the installation of its first cookstove, Qori Q’oncha keeps on supporting vulnerable communities’ thanks to your support.

100% of the beneficiaries confirm that respiratory diseases, burns, backaches and coughing occur less often or not at all

Making climate action simpler

We’re excited to inform you of some upgrades to our systems. Now any credits purchased through the Gold Standard website are transparently retired (taken out of circulation) in the Gold Standard Impact Registry within minutes of completing a purchase. You also instantly receive a certificate documenting your purchase with links to the relevant retirements in the Registry. These updates provide a quick, easy way to trace your offset purchase and retirement.

We are also working to add credit card payment options and to allow users to buy credits on behalf of their business or as a gift for family or friends.

Vandaag, 28 augustus 2020, publiceert Global Climate de concept definitie voor zijn platform. Lees hieronder hoe zaken in de nabije toekomst, vanuit betrokkenheid, gerealiseerd gaan worden:

Global Heroes for Local Heroes…

...is ons motto voor ondersteuning van projecten die de transitie naar een duurzame leefomgeving bewerkstelligen. Deze projecten zijn Gold Standard gecertificeerd of krijgen hiertoe een mogelijkheid door middel van pre-certificatie. Dit noemen we Global Climate PRECERT. PRECERT komt tot stand door onderbouwing van relevante experts en helpt bij het voordragen richting certificatie. Het platform dat het traject richting certificatie ondersteunt heet Global Climate. Realisatie wordt mogelijk door participatie van bedrijven en particulieren. Onder participatie wordt verstaan: eigen CO2-uitstoot compensatie, of vooruit helpen van CO2-uitstoot reductie door donatie. Naast overkoepelende CO2 reductie zullen de duurzame ontwikkelingsdoelen (SDG’s) van de Verenigde Naties ten grondslag moeten liggen aan Global Climate PRECERT projecten.

Wij waren erbij!

De raket is duurzaam door mogelijk hergebruik, aldus SpaceX, het ruimtevaartbedrijf van Elon Musk. Die beter bekend is als ‘CEO’ van Tesla elektrische auto’s.

Wij willen daar wat nog aan toevoegen; De ruimtereis, de voorbereidingen en het in stand houden van het programma van SpaceX kunnen nog duurzamer, namelijk door participatie in duurzame ontwikkelingsdoelen.

Wij zien dit als trailer van onze eigen reis, oftewel het lanceren van de projecten uit het Global-Climate portfolio om te laten zien hoe ze ondersteund kunnen worden. Participeer in CO2 reductie!
